During Irish Week 2017, RSAL Held a Meeting with Irish Authors

Date: 19.06.2017

On 18 March, at the Russian State Art Library’s (RSAL’s) Readers Museum, as part of the educational programme of Irish Week 2017 in Russia, a meeting was held in English with Irish writers Karl Geary, Deirdre Sullivan, and John Patrick McHugh.

The writers presented their latest books, talked about their work, and read short passages.

Karl Geary shared the book Montpelier Parade, which marked his debut as an author. He began his career in the arts as an actor, then became fascinated with scriptwriting, which helped him become a writer. Deirdre Sullivan presented the book Needlework, written in the YA (Young Adult) genre. The book is dedicated to a topic often raised in the author’s work—the complex relations of children and abusive parents. Concluding the meeting was the young writer John Patrick McHugh. For him, the Russian author Anton Chekhov is an example to follow, the Irishman exclusively writes short stories.

At the meeting, guests asked many questions relating to the literary life of modern Ireland
