The RSAL opened an exhibition of military documents in Belgrade

Date: 03.02.2017

On February 17, in the Russian House in Belgrade, the Russian State Arts Library presented the exhibition “On Both Sides of the War. The First World War in Documents from the RSAL Collections.”

The opening of the exhibition was scheduled for the Russian holiday Defender of the Motherland. The exposition evokes the era of the First World War through century-old documents: photographs, a newsreel, postcards, popular Russian prints known as “lubok,” caricatures that show not only those who were at war on the side of Russia, but also her opponents. The exposition showed not only everyday life at the front, but also the social life of the parties in conflict, the identity of tsars and governors, flags and anthems, considerable propaganda material, and the moods of various sectors of society.

Of special interest for guests of the Belgrade exhibition were the photos of the Serbian Volunteer Corps of Serbian, Croat, and Slovenian soldiers.
